Subgroup Summary - BO$S
Upon first hearing about Catholic Memorial’s inaugural robotics team I was quite interested. I had been involved in Project Lead the Way courses and wished to share these skills in a team setting. I felt that utilizing my skills as more of a business person would allow me to accomplish this task.
Early on in our meetings we first discussed what the name of our team would be. We wanted a catching name with a clear connection to our school. I eventually came up with the name CyberSaders because our school’s mascot is the Crusader.
After establishing some basics of our team, we divided into subgroups. The initial name of this group was simply “business.” However, we later renamed it to BO$S. This stands for Business, Outreach, Finance ($), and Scouting. We felt it more fully encompassed the scope of our subgroup.
The initial stages of the design process of our robot did not require much intervention from the BO$S team. Apart from accounting for the financial needs (we were well funded prior to purchasing any materials) of the team, we did not have much immediate responsibility. We came more into play when tallying up the money spent on our robot as a whole.
In addition to the financial aspect of the team, we engaged in reaching out to teams from other schools that would help mentor us in our robotic endeavors. Thankfully Waukesha South and Pewaukee were willing to give us a helping hand. Their aid has proven most beneficial. The scouting portion of our responsibilities is yet to come. We lack the knowledge to scout effectively to form alliances; however, we hope to attain insight regarding this before the competition.
Looking into the future we hope to gain more support from the community, establish new relationships with other FIRST Robotics teams, enhance our business structure, and create sound scouting promotions. Hopefully next year we will be able to increase our sponsor pool.
